Flutist and singer
Martha Rodríguez-Salazar is a founding member of the chamber group The Bernal Hill Players, an ensemble that performs classical and contemporary chamber music from around the world.
Martha has been involved in the commissioning and performing vibrant new work by Bay Area and Mexican composers that challenge commonly-held assumptions about new music.
She also performs as flutist and singer with the classical duo Ave Fénix, with guitarist Sharon Wayne.
As a mezzosoprano, she has sung with many chamber music ensembles as well as choirs in Mexico, United States and Europe. She toured with the Mexican Navy choir, the vocal group Voz en Punto, and her chamber group Duo Santa Cecilia.
She sang the main role of the opera Juana, composed in 2007 by Carla Lucero, a work inspired by the life of famous poet Mexican nun Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (1648-1695).
